Zephyranthes

Is a member of the family amaryllidaceae, native to South and Central America, there are about 35 species of plants.

It is a herbaceous, bulbous perennials with narrow leaves remnevidnymi.

Flowers similar to the flowers of Crocus and daffodils, can be pink, white and yellow, rarely bicolored, bloom for only 1-2 days and fade, but in their place appear new stems and so over a long period.

Therefore the plant was given the name «upstart». Bulbs zefirantesa — poisonous, they contain alkaloids.

 Location and lighting

The plant needs a lot of light. Best placed in the South window, although you can on the East and West.

It is not desirable to have the Northern Windows, in this case flowering, most likely, will not, will only grow leaves. In summer you can make outdoors on a balcony, porch, cottage.

Temperature

At room conditions, in the period from spring to summer, maintain a temperature of +20 ÷ 26 degrees. In the winter – no more than 12 degrees.

Watering and humidity

Watering should be abundant during the period from spring to summer, not letting the water stagnate in the pot. In the winter — quite rare, you can even give the plant a rest period – i.e., not to irrigate, and start to wet the soil only in February, carefully and gently removing it from this period. In the hot summer days it is recommended to spray.

Fertilizer

Fed 3-4 times a month during the growing season, mineral or organic fertilizers.

Transplantation and propagation
