Saloma — care at home
Is a member of the family gesneriaceae from the tropics of South America, there are about 50 species of plants.
It is an herbaceous, low-growing perennials with erect, dense pubescence, yellowish-brown stem, which decreases with age, length about 90 cm, ovate-lanceolate, dark green or emerald green, with a red pubescence, velvety leaves.
The flowers are tubular in shape, bright red in color, appear in the leaf axils.
At the same time, you may receive up to 20 flowers. Saloma perfect for landscaping cottages, office, offices, training facilities, winter gardens and exhibitions.
Location and lighting
Best planted in warm rooms, South-West and South-East Windows. The plant needs a lot of bright light, but it must be protected from direct sunlight so that the sun could not burn the leaves. It is necessary to avoid draughts.
The optimum temperature cultivation in summer +19-+25 degrees, in the winter– +18-+19 degrees.
Watering and humidity
Watering should be moderate and evenly throughout the year except December-January when the plant is dormant.
Use warm water, the same, small portions, cold saloma may die. You need to maintain a consistently moist environment.
You should look to drops of water falling on the leaves, forming them white or brown spots, which reduces decorative effect. Humidity should be constant, in the region of 80-95%.
Feed monthly during the growing season, weak solutions of organic fertilizers. Winter feeding do not.
Transplantation and propagation
Doing a transplant in early spring, in a flat, but wide capacity, in loose, nutritious mixture of turf and leaf soil, adding sand and cow dung.
Solomo propagated by seeds, cuttings apical shoots and rhizomes. Propagated by cuttings at any time of the year, but better and more magnificent will bloom the cuttings taken in the period from September to October.
