Lampranthus — care at home


Lampranthus – deciduous low-growing succulents, which reaches a height of 45 cm.

The plant has very beautiful flowers. Summer flower grown on the windowsill, and in the winter carry in a secluded and cool bright place, for example, in winter the greenhouse.

After the plant bloomed, there is a phase of rapid growth. This is the best time to transplant flower in a larger pot.

Lampranthus loves moderate temperatures. In the winter time when the dry content of the plant can withstand a temperature of at least 8°C, in summer it tolerates high temperatures.

During the rest of the flower should preferably be handled in a bright room with a temperature of about 10°C.

Watering and humidity

Between watering the soil should dry out on top. It is recommended to water the plants every 12-15 days (preferably soft water), in November and February, watering is reduced to 1 times a month.

Excessive watering leads to the death of the plant. Flower contain a room with moderate humidity.

Lampranthus fed a liquid complex fertilizer. Fertilize the plant 1 every 2 weeks, starting in may and ending in September. In a period of calm there is no need a dressing.

Transplantation and propagation

Propagated from flower seed and Cherenkov method (propagation by cuttings is possible only in late summer).

Seeds germinate in approximately 3 weeks, provided that the room temperature is about 15°C.

It is advisable to plant seeds in containers with good drainage. After the sprouts reached a height of 3-5 mm, they can be put.

Pests and fight with them

The plant may be affected by such pests as scale insects and mealybug. They are removed from the flower using a cotton swab, previously soaked in insecticide. In addition, insecticide is added to irrigation water.
