Hyacinth — care at home
Hyacinth – a beautiful garden bulbous plant with striking white, pink or red flowers that can be grown at home.
To make room in the pot it is pleasing to the eye, you need to perform certain maintenance rules.
Location and lighting
When the plant has not yet bloomed, he needs a lot of light, so put the pot in a well-lighted place. When the buds begin to open, the flower is removed from the window sill, providing a little shade.
The plant is placed so that it was not in the draft, in direct sunlight and near heating devices. It is important to provide him with a constant flow of fresh air in fine weather we often take out to the balcony.
When hyacinth blooms, regardless of the time of year, maintain a constant temperature of 15-20°C. In another time the room may be cooler.
Watering and humidity
Water the plant fairly liberally (but not filling, otherwise the decay of roots) after planting in the pot and to the end of flowering.
In a month after flowering, stop watering almost. To humidity hyacinth is not demanding, so spraying it is not required.
After the appearance of the leaves and during flowering, feed the plant with a standard liquid complex media, conduct fertilizer every 10 days. After flowering, feeding is stopped.
Transplantation and propagation
Transplantation is usually not necessary, as after flowering the bulbs are often dug up and left for storage in a dry place.
On the bottom of the pot be sure to put drainage. The soil for this plant should be light, with neutral pH. Mandatory when planting good drainage.
Propagation of hyacinth bulbs «baby». They are separated from the bulbs after flowering and planted in the ground in late summer. Young plants bloom for the first time in 2-3 years.
The second method of propagation is with seeds. They are soaked in a solution of potassium permanganate, dried and germinated in a light soil, maintaining a sufficiently high temperature and abundant watering. This is a more complex method, and flowers grown from seed usually bloom for the first time in 6 years.
Pests and fight with them
Of insects most often hyacinth amaze thrips. Their presence is evidenced by small whitish spots on leaves and flowers, which in a later stage become brown. To get rid of them, use the standard insecticides for pest control.
