Gedihium — care at home
Gedihium – herbaceous plant of the ginger family, has its origins in tropical Asia.
This flower has a large number of erect leafy stems, elliptic or lanceolate leaves and Golden, orange or red flowers gathered in spikes. The plant blooms in late summer – early autumn.
Location and lighting
Gedihium relates to light-requiring species in need of intense sunlight, so it is advisable to put the pot on the South side, it is also possible placement on East or West window.
However, from the direct rays it is better to be protected from direct sunlight in order to avoid burns on the leaves. In the summer you can take the city to a suburban area.
Thermophilic gedihium grows well in summer air temperature of 25-28°C and in winter it reduces, but make sure that it does not fall below 10 degrees.
In warmer or colder conditions is often observed yellowing of leaves, reduced flowering, stunted growth.
Watering and humidity
In the period of active growth need regular and abundant watering in the winter it is significantly reduce. Water the plant to defend, preferably soft water.
With poor watering may drop leaves. High humidity it does not require, so it is usually often not sprayed.
From late spring to early fall spend feeding using a full fertilizer. You can also enable the withdrawal of liquid organic fertilizers, but their number should be small.
Transplantation and propagation
Gedihium transplanted every spring. For this purpose, a mixture of turf, leaf soil, humus and sand (in equal proportions).
The plant is propagated in spring by dividing rhizomes, and seeds. The first method is more simple: separate a portion of the rhizome with at least 1 escape and planted immediately in prepared soil.
If you choose the second method of reproduction, seeds are planted in peat soil is shallow, not more than 2 mm.
Before you put in the soil, the seed is soaked for about 2 hours in a solution of potassium permanganate.
To full support seed germination temperature 21-24 degrees. Then the sprouts are planted in separate small pots.
Pests and fight with them
Of all insect pests on the leaves gadijuma most often a parasite mite. On his appearance indicate the yellowing and falling of leaves and fine webbing on the underside of leaves.
To get rid of the tick, the flower treated with actellic. Prevention of this pest and the need to avoid too low a level of humidity and occasionally spray the leaves. Sometimes the plant appears scale, I struggle with it as well.
