Rod Curculigo belongs to the family Gipoksiej, it combines 10 different stemless rhizomatous plants.

The genus got its name from the word curculio, which in Latin means weevil.

The seeds of plant really has some similarities with forms of the namesake insect.

Flowers has many properties due to which it is considered to be very promising. The main advantages of Curculigo can be attributed to rapid growth, hardiness, large size and decorative leaves.

The petioles grow plants from the root collar, the plant has no trunk. Plant height depends on the size of leaves, adult plants the leaves are 100-120 cm long and 15 cm wide.

If you add the length of petioles (30 to 50 cm), you get a four-foot plant.

The cultivation of curculigo

 Location and lighting

Flower like moderate indirect light, a preference for bright places, but there is a need to protect the plants from the bright rays of the sun.

Temperature

Optimal temperature for curculigo 18-20°C, in any case not allowed location of plants in the draft, otherwise the flower will drop leaves.

Slight deviation from optimal room temperature (13-22°C), survives in extreme climatic conditions.

Watering and humidity

You need to ensure that the soil is kept constantly moist. In summer the plant watered every week in cold weather – once every 2 weeks.

The air in the room should be moderate humidity. Flower tolerates dry atmosphere, however, it is recommended once a week to conduct the spraying.

Fertilizer

Feeding begins in March and ends in September.

Transplantation and propagation

Young plants are transplanted each year, curculigo, those who have grown once in 3 years. To save a decorative flower it needs the free space – the leaves don’t have anything to touch.

Reproduction occurs in the spring by dividing rhizomes, it is also possible descendants.

Pests and fight with them

The plant can hit the San Jose scale, mealybug, and spider mites. Sunburn causes the appearance of brown spots.

Under excessive watering the plant dies. To avoid this pest, the leaves should be regularly sprayed and wash.
