Barberry — planting and care
Barberry is quite attractive and quite undemanding plant for the suburban garden.
Any gardener among a wide variety of types of barberry, large and small, varied in color of leaves and the shape of the Bush, can pick out any plant that will not leave indifferent neither guests nor neighbors.
Plus the bushes are easy to be cutting and forming.
It is a versatile plant ideal for single plantings, and design borders, formation of mixborders or rockery as it is used as a hedge.
Family barberry belongs to the genus Berberis includes mostly deciduous species, and to a lesser extent, spiny evergreen shrubs.
The flowers of the plants are small, but fragrant, often Golden-yellow in colour, although they may be red and two-tone. The fruit of barberry are bright red, often edible.
The most common type is the «Berberis vulgaris». The shrub is high enough, grows to a height of 2,5-3 meters. On the shoots of the plants have large thorns.
The flowers are bright yellow, red, edible fruit, holding up to late autumn. Eat preferably after they grab frost. Unripe berries should not be consumed, because the content of strong alkaloids.
