Victoria Brezhnev: biography
Viktoria Petrovna Brezhneva was the only wife of Soviet General Secretary Leonid Brezhnev. Together they lived a long and happy life together. In total the family life of this couple was more than 50 years.
Brezhnev was born to Victoria (nee Denisov) in 1907, in a simple working-proletarian family in Belgorod. Father – machinist-railroad. His assurance rested a large family: 4 daughters and one son.
Some biographers say about the Jewish roots Brezhnev, claiming that the name Victoria is not typical of the age and circle in which she lived the wife of Leonid Brezhnev. Different sources are called as real, her last name Goldberg and Olszewski. But Victoria Petrovna for life denied these rumors, calling his native name it is the name of Denisov. Victoria and her supposedly named because in their neighborhood lived a large number of poles, among whom this name was widespread.
Mother Victoria Brezhneva was a homemaker, raising children and providing comfort. Vic graduated from high school and went to Kursk. Here she enrolled in medical school. After graduating, worked for some time on a speciality the midwife.
The wife of the Secretary-General
The fate of Victoria decided when she was a College student. Once with a friend she went to the dance. There, on one of the dance floors of Kursk, she met Leonid Brezhnev, the student-farmers. According to her, he was not a handsome man. And dancing could not. Looked so innocent and squishy. So the girlfriend refused to dance with him. And Victoria has regretted the guy and left.
Since then they never parted. Married in 1928. First lived very modestly. Rented a room in the hostel. Victoria Brezhnev worked in the hospital. But when the man began to rapidly climb the corporate ladder, she left her job and worked since then, only family.
She was a simple woman, home and business. Perfectly cooked, taking care of her husband and two children in 1929, the couple had a daughter, Galina, and 4 years later son George. Later, when her husband became General Secretary of the CPSU Central Committee, Victoria Petrovna took care of the clothes of the husband.
In their house there was a maid and personal chef. Brezhnev taught them to cook as it liked the man. But with stardom, the woman is not sick: she’s always remained in the shadow of Leonid Brezhnev, avoided the noisy companies, in which shone the fashionable outfits and hairstyles wives of party officials, almost never accompanied her husband to official travel.
Victoria Petrovna Brezhnev behaved very modestly. None of her contemporaries have never seen a woman in expensive clothes and jewelry. She never interfered in the intrigues of high society and the work of the wife was not caught in gossip or behind-the-scenes games. It was not the «first lady» in the current sense of the word.
Leonid Ilyich at home called the wife of Victor. Perhaps because of some defect of speech available to Victoria Brezhneva. She only knew how to listen, to reassure and to give unexpectedly-practical advice: a simple and wise at the same time. Loyal and even-tempered «half» was the second «I» of the General Secretary.
Daughter Galina Brezhnev was the complete opposite of his mother: bright, with an explosive temperament, fashionista, loves luxury and expensive jewelry. She had many novels that did not like the mother. But even more than her troubled daughter’s addiction to alcohol and scandals that accompanied Galina her entire life.
In the TV series «Galina» of Vitaly Pavlov’s daughter of Leonid Brezhnev allegedly lifetime disliked the father for his cheating mother.
It is difficult to say, was the General Secretary of the CPSU faithful to his wife. There was talk about several of his novels. For example, with the singer Anne of Safeway. Supposedly her officials met during the great Patriotic war, and the affair lasted long.
More is known about the other woman, which for a long time was near to official. It was his nurse Nina Korovyakova. Some biographers write that she behaved provocatively towards Victoria Brezhneva and had a huge impact on Leonid Brezhnev.
However, the personal life of Victoria Brezhneva, how do you think those people who knew her, went well. The couple respected each other and never fought. In any case, so it looked for all outsiders.
Victoria Brezhnev survived her husband by 13 years. When the husband did not, most of the property the woman away. She lived quietly and modestly, in a small Moscow apartment and all alone.
In the last decade of his life, the woman suffered from diabetes and had to inject insulin.
And life, and death of Victoria Brezhneva was quiet and hardly covered in the media, unlike the life and death of his daughter.
But buried two such different, but related a number of women in the Novodevichy cemetery.
